Individual Therapy
A collaborative process
for meaningful and lasting change.
Individual therapy is a collaborative process for those seeking to understand and address not only what they are struggling with but why they are struggling. We work together to create a space and alliance that supports meaningful and lasting change. Everyone is different, and this process is unique to each person. What works for one person might not work for another. Our goal is to figure out and take action on what works for you.
The Process
What to Expect
First Sessions
We balance assessment and goal development with efforts to facilitate meaningful change as efficiently as possible. We respect your time and commitment. We want you to experience healthy change while establishing a plan that will support deeper work.
Ongoing Work
We draw on the progress that has been made. This is often challenging and rewarding. We address dynamics such as inherited patterns of coping, emotional blind spots, and relational patterns that keep you stuck.
Integration
As change is integrated — clearer boundaries, a steadier sense of self, less self-criticism — we discuss what is best for you based on the goals you have achieved and any new goals you may have.

Frequently Asked
Depth-oriented therapy focuses on understanding the underlying patterns, defenses, and dynamics that shape your experience — not just the surface-level symptoms. It draws on psychodynamic, existential, and trauma-informed perspectives to support meaningful, lasting change rather than short-term symptom management.
Coaching tends to be goal-oriented and action-focused on the present and future. Therapy addresses the underlying emotional, relational, and psychological patterns that often shape why goals feel hard to reach. We also offer coaching for clients who want that frame instead — we'll help you decide which is the right fit.
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Most clients meet weekly, especially early in the work, though frequency can be adjusted based on what's most useful. We'll discuss what makes sense for your situation and goals.
No. Many of our clients aren't in crisis — they're thoughtful, self-aware people who feel stuck, want to understand themselves better, or want to make a meaningful change that hasn't quite happened yet. Therapy is for anyone wanting to live with more presence and clarity.
All sessions are telehealth. We're licensed in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Florida — clients in any of those four areas can work with us. Telehealth makes consistent attendance easier and is just as effective as in-person for the work we do.
